This is gaslighting on a massive scale. Some of it is being done by humans and also humans program the AI to carry out gaslighting through algorithms that decide what information you're exposed to online.

The motive is to make you think that you're crazy or that your memory doesn't work right so you can't trust yourself and your perceptions of reality. This means you'll defer to the abusers for an account of what's real and what you should do.
Slowly over time the abusers become the authority over your life.
We are being bombarded with messages of bribery, guilt-tripping and shaming to act against our own judgment.
A 4000 person study was done at Yale University in 2000 to test the most effective ways of emotionally manipulating people into taking an experimental drug. The study is listed on the NIH U.S. National Library of Medicine website.
Among the "interventions" they tested were:

personal freedom message
economic freedom message
self-interest message
community interest message
guilt message
embarrassment message
anger message
trust in science message
not bravery message
